BORJA BUCES RENARD

203
Borja Buces Renard. Madrid (Spain), 1978

Buces draws the human figure and still lifes with an astonishingly skilful realism. He treats the body seriously and carefully, without ever shying away from showing the stark reality of the matter, and in doing so creates a beautiful narrative drama. He overflows with talent and skill both in his drawing and colour work, although underneath a cloak of chromatic neutrality, he avoids giving any part – not even his backgrounds – a central role; something one might expect given his media. His work is an excellent example of a new artistic expression founded on the immanence of the human essence and its brutal efforts to survive in the face of human decadence and misery. He brings a genuine and timeless quality to his works, thus guaranteeing one of the fundamental functions of art: that it prevails over academic canons.
