EDITORIAL 5 N oes tarea fácilpilotaruna instituciónherederadeun legado cultural –artístico– de tanta envergadura como el del Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona. Ahora, más que nunca, es preciso armarse del valor necesario para enfrentarse a grandes e im- portantes retosquenospermitan, noya sólo seguir adelanteen nuestroempeñoporapoyarydifundirnuestroarteyanuestros artistas, sino tambiénparaevolucionary conseguirestara laal- turaquenos correspondeen todos losámbitos. Rodearnos de personas profesionalmente solventes va a ayu- darnos ennuestroprocesodemodernización, unproceso lento y a veces tortuoso que sin embargo nos conducirá a la eficien- cia propia de una estructura bien gestionada y transparente. El principal reto es lograr difundir nuestra labor cultural y artísti- caalmayornúmerodepersonas, siendo coherentesyexigentes en loque respecta a estándaresde rigor y calidad, algo esencial paracaptaraunpúblicoque, sibienesminoritario, esexigentey estáacostumbradoaunaconstanterenovaciónde laoferta.Pero éste es un logro colectivo, no individual y si bien la identidad de nuestra institución siempre ha estadobiendefinida, se hace preciso seguir trabajando juntosparaasegurarnuestra sosteni- bilidada largoplazo. Las nuevas tecnologías, esencialmente de distribución de la in- formación, arrastran en sus redes cambios radicales a los que todos debemos adaptarnos, sin prisa, pero sin pausa, porque los recursos tradicionales basados en sistemas analógicos se han agotado. La globalización genera un tráficode información quenosdesbordayesdentrodeeste contextodondehemosde rediseñar y actualizar nuestra estrategia. Es preciso ampliar el acceso a la cultura, respaldar la innovación y la calidad y con- tribuir activamente en los diferentes procesos de formación de los futurosprofesionalesdel artesindesvirtuarnuestroobjetivo original y legítimoperohaciéndonos, si cabe,másaccesibles, re- cortandodistancias, y siempre fomentando el pensamiento crí- ticoenunmundocomoel actual, donde los límitesentre lo local y loglobal hanquedadomuydifuminados. Nuestramisiónescrucial: somoscatalizadoresde lacreaciónar- tística, impulsores del aprendizaje –tanto artístico comohuma- nístico–mediadoresentrearteypúblico, gestoresdeproyectos, paladinesde labellezayde losvaloresen losquese fundamenta nuestrahistoria, unahistoriabasadaenuna cultura congran ri- quezadematices,únicaybrillante, que tenemos laobligaciónde defenderyde salvaguardar. Estamosenello, todos juntos. I t’snoeasy task leadingan institutionwith sucha cultural and artistic legacy as important as the Barcelona Royal Artistic Circle’s is. Now, more that ever, we need to arm ourselveswith thebravery to confront large, serious challenges thatwill allow us to not only forge ahead in our efforts to support and spread ourart andartists, but also toevolveandmaintain the standard we shouldbeat inall our tasks. Surrounding ourselves with professionally solvent people will helpus inourmodernisation, a slowandoccasionally torturous process thatwill however leadus towards theefficiencyproper toawell-managedand transparentbusinessstructure.Themain challenge is to spreadour cultural andartistic efforts around to the greatest possible number of people, while still being cohe- rentanddemanding in termsofourstandardsofrigourandqua- lity.This isessential toattractanewaudience thatdespitebeing aminority is demanding, and used to a continuous renewal of cultural offerings. However, this is a collective, not individual, achievement and although the identity of our institution has always beenwell-defined, we have to keepworking together to ensureour long-term sustainability. New technologies – essentially informationdistribution–bring with them radical changes that we must slowly but surely get used to, as traditional resources based on analogue systems have expired. Globalisation bringswith it a flow of information that overcomes us andwithin this context we have to redesign andupdateourcurrent strategy.Wemustbroadenaccess tocul- ture, support innovation and quality and actively contribute to our future art professionals different training processes, albeit without distorting our original, legitimate aim. Wemust make ourselvesmore accessible if possible, shortening distances and always encouraging critical thinking in a world like today’s, in which the limitsbetween the local and theglobal areevermore blurred. Ourmission is crucial: we are the catalysts of artistic creation, thedriving forceof learning–bothartistic andhumanistic,me- diators between art and audience, projectmanagers, guardians ofbeautyand thevaluesourhistory isbasedon.Ahistorybased on a richlyvaried, unique andbrilliant culture thatwehave the obligation todefendand safeguard.Weareall in this together.
