CERCLE 5

I n this new term - from January to June 2017 - our Panorama d’Art course has been finished with seminaries, workshops and complementary activities. In addition, the Institut is offering a new intensive course aimed at artists that establishes an order or method for carrying out a specific artistic project. The meaning and symbolism of colour was the topic of the first seminar that took place in the Institut’s rooms with the attendance of most of the students. The broadest range of topics on colour was touched on, from both an artistic and popular viewpoint. Beliefs between the students’ own cultures were contrasted given that there were nine different nationalities present, a fact that contributed knowledge to the debate. Thesecondseminarfocusedonthewaystocreateabriefsummary of the artistic project. From finding a concept to representing it via analysis and a reflection on the historical period studied to developing the creating process and completing the artwork; the technique used and the presentation of the corresponding technical file. And to finish it all of, a description of the emotions or sensations felt by the author of the final piece. In the third seminar we went all out with perspective. This is a rocky area for some who, at the end of the course, were thankful for the simplicity it had been treated with and the ease of applying it immediately. We will continue to impart knowledge on perspective on an ongoing basis with out personalised tutorials. There are plenty of students that will start their credits on the late Gothic period, the Quattrocento and Renaissance, when they will need their knowledge of perspective. In addition to the tutorials corresponding to the current credits, the workshops have also taught specific techniques of ceramics, the use of acrylics and oils, engraving and framing, as well as vernissage for the finished pieces. As each students chooses the technique they think most adequate for their project, there is an exchange of knowledge that makes for a good work atmosphere as well as familiarity with all kinds of artistic expression. Guided visits to ARCO in Madrid and MEAM in Barcelona have helped to contrast different current trends in art, a necessary skill for the Institut’s students. It was edifying for all and led to deep reflections on concepts, styles and techniques that otherwise would have been impossible to obtain. We shall encourage the creation of interest groups focused on similar activities. In addition, we have also had out first trip outside to practise in nature in the Huescan Pyrenees. Around twenty students went to a country house and learnt the techniques needed to grasp the gorgeous views that the countryside afforded us. An experience that we shall repeat in such different settings such as mountains, plains, marshlands, archaeological remains and cityscapes. Participation in art competitions (both internally at the Cercle and in external open ones) has been fruitful, with Institut students winning prizes and second places. This is a further motivation for the Panorama d’Art course programme, to which more and more members are joining up to. Panorama d'Art Foto/Photo Antoni Serés
