20 late 14th-century building in a fabulous location next to Plaza de la Catedral. Known as the Pignatelli Palace, it also covers the neighbouring 16th-century Bassols House, renovated by the architect Josep Font- serè i Domènech in the early 19th centurywithmanyGothicwindows andRenaissance reliefs. The finding of the skeleton of what might be the guard dog of the counts’ palace amongst the rubble inspired the artist LluísMontanéMollfulleda to sculpt the piece Cave Canum that welcomes visitors in the internal patio. It is worth mentioning some of the noble rooms such the ‘Hall of the Four Seasons’ flanked by four magnificent female sculptures created in1968 for asculptural exhibitiondedicated to thememberswhichare allegories of the various seasons of the year. For itspart, the splendid ‘Hall of the Atlantes’, Neoclassical in style, was accidentally discov- ered behind Isabelline-style walls and ceiling when the palace was being renovated in 1963. There is also an iconic bronze, the Winged Genius of Arts (1900) on one of the current stone façades supporting the restaurant’s garden terrace, thework of the sculptor JosepMont- serrat i Portella (1860-1923), which greets the thousands and pas- sers-by that walkdownPortal de l’Àngel, oneof Spain’sbusiest urban stretches.
