71 I ncorporated in 1940, the Institute was created to follow the pre- ceptsof theobjectivesof an institution suchas theBarcelonaRoyal Artistic Circle, which are none other than researching, teaching and promotingart. Formore than75 years theCirclehascarriedout these functions, albeit not in the shapeof an instituteper se. TheCirclehas always been very careful with its responsibility as a referent and a documentary archiveof artisticevents inBarcelonaand inother parts of theworld. It has provided a consultory base to carry out investiga- tion since thebeginning. In 2016, the current governing body is at amoment where there are many favourableelements to launchingan institute thanks to thepres- enceof boardmemberswith theacademic titlesand theeagerness to definitively set the bases of what will doubtless be one of theCircle’s greatest achievements. Via its Institute, the Circle is seeking more closeness to Barcelona society, thus fulfilling some of its main aims which are researching, teaching, promotinganddisseminatingart andculture. For this reason we have to be present in various parts of the city, so providing par- ticipating for anyone who might be interested in the various training disciplines on offer. The Institute offers a complete artistic training programme via a in- terdisciplinary knowledge transfer system. Its training philosophy is theory-practice in nature, and is based on acquiring the knowledge that conditions thecreationof artisticprojects andcreativeprocesses of eachof theperiods studied. Anyone interested inart or any aspect related to art, whatever their previous education or trainingmay, after an interview process, access the programme of courses offered by the Institute, just as the Artistic Circle has done over the last 135 of its history. Nobody has ever been denied access for strictly academic reasons. The newgenerations of young artists arewell trainedandunderstand the importance of human knowledge within art. In fact over the last thirty years those that have received the greatest level of world rec- ognitionamongst critics and in theartmarket areartists trained to the highest level. A virtuoso at creating images does not an artist make.
