Nacimiento: 6 de julio de 1928 Santander - ESPAÑA Fallecimiento: 14 de abril de 2013 Madrid - ESPAÑA Fascinado por el mar de su Cantabria natal, el pincel de Eduardo Sanz, en su fase de madurez y durante los últimos treinta años de su vida, se fundió con el mar y destiló olas, mares y faros a lo largo de una carrera artística impregnada de pasión y disciplina. Su prolífica creatividad es responsable de su denso legado, dentro del que es preciso mencionar el Centro de Arte Faro Cabo Mayor, un espacio privilegiado y único que preside la bahía de Santander y que atesora, no solamente obra de Sanz, sino también la de otros muchos artistas españoles entre los que figuran su mujer y su hijo. El faro, imagen icónica en la que el artista buscó atesorar su haber simbólico y fijar el eje dorsal de gran parte de su travesía pictórica, doblegó olas y tempestades al abrigo de espigones y costas. Nunca ocultó la gran fascinación que despertaba en él sus destellos y su majestuosa verticalidad, por lo que recaló en los principales faros del litoral español y los catalogó todos. Ya en Madrid, el artista se llevó consigo la nostalgia del mar y siguió dedicándole todo su empeño. Cortesía de El Diario Montañés. memorial Eduardo Sanz Fraile Born: 6th July 1928 Santander - SPAIN Passed away: 14th April 2013 Madrid - SPAIN Fascinated by the sea of his native Cantabria, Eduardo Sanz’s paintbrush melted into the sea in his mature period of the last thirty years of his life, and he painted waves, seas and lighthouses throughout an artistic career laced with passion and discipline. His prolific output has led to a dense legacy, amongst which we must mention the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse Art Centre, a unique, privileged space that presides over the bay of Santander and guards not only Sanz’s work, but also of many other Spanish artists including his wife and son. The lighthouse, an iconic image in which the artist attempted to capture its symbolic meaning and later made it the nexus of a great part of his pictorial output, beating off waves and storms in the shelter of its breakwaters and coasts. He never hid the fascination the lighthouse’s shining light and majestic verticality held for him, and he dropped anchor at the main lighthouses of the Spanish coast and catalogued them all. Once in Madrid, the artist took with him the nostalgia for the sea and continued to dedicate all his efforts to it. Today, it is the sea who guards his ashes. 37
