It’s not about finding solutions to please everyone, but rather about finding criteria that fit our cultural outlook: what there really is out there. At least, the National Culture Prizes this year have drawn attention for one reason or another and have had a bizarre, worrying and decisive impact. Why do we have a Prize for Dramatic Literature and another for Theatre? To Juan Mayorga for his piece La lengua en pedazos (The Language in Pieces), about Teresa de Jesús and Libro de mi vida (Book of My Life). Ramón Barea wins the Theatre Prize, for acting, authoring or promoting? Carmen Calvo wins the National Art Prize.
