theBritish-born Indian artist AnishKapoor, FrankGehry’s amazing soundpavilion, or the incredibleCrownFountain by theCatalan artist JaumePlensa, whosepresence in the city is completedby four of hiswell-known head installations – eachmore than sixmetres tall – in the immediate surroundings of thepark. Chicago is home tomore than fortymuseumwhere you can dive into collections that transport you todifferent worlds and times. TheChicagoArt Institute enjoysworldwide reknown and has a very broad collection including the largest number of Impressionist-erapaintings outside the Louvre.Meanwhile, theChicagoMuseumof Contemporary Art displays provocativemodern art in all its splendour. Inaugurated in1879, thebuilding’s dimensions are such (almost 93,000 squaremetres) that one canguess that it is home to a spectacular collections. TheArt Institute is not only one of theUS’s best art schools, but it is also home to thebiggest collectionof Impressionist andpost- Impressionist paintings except the Louvre and theMusée art routes Chicago TheSecondCity Walking through the centre of Chicago is likedrawing a symbolic route through the history of theUS. In the city centrewe can find the areapopularly known as The Loop, where the elevated trains that link the rest of the citymeet. The area suffered a fire in 1871, after which it was almost completely reconstructed, thus explaining the large amount of art deco elements that canbe found in the area. In fact, amajority of the artistic treasuresChicago is home to canbe found inpublicplaces, such asGrant Park and its northern extension,MillenniumPark.
