¿Existe arte sinbelleza? Distinguir la belleza u otorgar la cualidad de lo bello en el arte es generalmente un ejercicio complejo, ya que éste se ve influenciado por el contexto personal y social de quién está mirando o reconociendo. No hay que olvidar que el concepto de belleza ha sido distinto entre culturas y a lo largodel tiempo: en la antigüedad clásica se relacionó con la simetría y laproporciónde las formas; enel sigloXIXalgunos movimientos encontraron su aplicación en lo irracional, el desorden y la realidad inmediata; en el siglo XX, en cambio, perdió preponderancia a favor de lo original y la idea, detrás del objeto.Mepareceque labellezaenel artecobrasentidoy ocupa un lugar según cada creador y cada espectador. Háblenos de sumagníficabibliotecade arte… En los años ochenta, la acumulación de libros que tenía excedíami capacidadpara ordenarlos, por lo que destiné un espacio y busqué el apoyo de especialistas en los noventa para conformar una biblioteca de manera estructurada y profesional. Estomepermitiópreservarmismemoriasdevida yconvertiren realidadmisueñodeunacolecciónbibliográfica. Comencécon librosdeescuela, viaje y lecturaacompañante, y poco a poco reuní un acervo importante de libros de arte, literatura, filosofía, historia y antropología, entre otros temas. Dearte incluí librossobrehistoria, teoríaycrítica;monografías sobre pintura, escultura, dibujo y arquitectura; catálogos razonados y catálogos de exposiciones de los artistas más destacadosde lahistoriadel arte,diseñoy fotografía; además de enciclopedias, diccionarios y glosarios especializados. Estavasta recopilaciónhapermitidodocumentar y referenciar las obras de la colección de arte, así como los distintos movimientos y escuelas en ella representados. La colección de artea su vez seha convertidoenunmotor de crecimiento de la biblioteca: de cada artista hay diversos libros sobre su vida, trayectoria y obras, haciendo que el número de volúmenes supere ya los cincuentamil ejemplares. ¿Es necesario entender el arte a través de los libros? Mi primer acercamiento con el arte fue a través de los libros. De niño me gustaba ver las imágenes de obras que en ellos se reproducían, y este gustome llevó con el tiempo a interesarme por la vida y trayectoria de los artistas: me convertí en un ávido lector de biografías ymonografías para saber cómo habían vivido y qué habían aportado éstos para ocupar un lugar dentro de la historia del arte. Sin duda, pienso que los libros te ayudan a completar tu conocimiento y experiencia del arte; llegando incluso, como sucedió enmi caso, a suscitar una PASIÓN por esta manifestación de la creatividad humana. Qué interesante reunir un legado artístico y documental a un mismo tiempo... Comoyahemencionado, lascoleccionesdearteybibliográfica son sueños que he podido cumplir, y que venturosamente con el tiempo se han enriquecido una a la otra.
