Hedoes not just insinuate or reference the role, he explicitly states it via a vehement narrative, singing it out like amodern troubadour. His desire for hyperrealism in his technique and his search formeaningmakes the signifier easy to understand. The viewer absorbs an image of the moment, full of elaborate expression, yet with a clear and forceful message.We can’t askmore of apainting that illustrates and instructs us in such an evident topicality. Thepainter communicates his context to us – which is likely taken from his own experience – that has created aperceptionof thisworld that he so clearly and cleanly represents. Bold and audacious perspectives and foreshortenings assure us of his talent andmastery of drawing.
