Uno es dueño de lo que calla y esclavo de lo que habla. SigmundFreud We need nous, we need truth andbravery, and all of this has endedup in suchprofounddisreputebothof current art andof thosepredators that encourage and justify such inediblemishmashes, so cold andunable to cause any emotionbar unease. Art should always overcome itself andnever be content to just represent appearance. Good criticism, which I havebeen callingout for since thebeginning, invites us to reflect andopen validdoors to criticism. This is something especially valuable for the artists themselves, who tend towards a lack of self-critique and an excess of vanity. However, this is somewhat logical whenwe see that themarkets have spread themselves out in the emptiness of an immense creative vacuumof forms anddiscourseswhere almost everything is repetitionor plagiarism. Nothing is truth: almost everything is a fraud. A frenetic race toget the greatestmedia impact bymeans of unavoidable provocations or unsufferable shows of bad taste. We speak of transgressionwithout knowing about its legacy, with no knowledgewe can create nothing new, especiallywhenwemove in aworld that shows such signs of tiredness, where something inside seems to havebroken. And even so,many of us carry onwithout seeing the harm ravaging its own ecosystem, perhaps as a result of the loathsome individualism that possesses and condemns us. The artmarket is nothingmore than a replica of whatever is happening in theworld. Fluctuating and deceitful, it lacks a humanistic vision. Everything is worthy if it is presentedon the stage selected and is duly justified –morally and socially –with some speech byGod knowswho. There is nothing left tounderstand, andwhat you see iswhat youget. Hewhowants to speak of horror has nothing in commonwithGoya’s devouringSaturn - he limits himself tobuyingplastic letters that areplacedon thewall of an art fair stand to compose theword: HORROR. The only really important thing is tohave someone toparasitize and in this they are the very image of the society that has created them. Horrible things happen, but after the tears the only worry is about who’s going topay for thedamage. Not about what has happened, what is happening and how to solve it. We are theMasters of our silence, we are the slaves of our words SigmundFreud LuisaNoriega Foto/ Photo J. C. Atienza. Lic. CreativeCommons 19
